Why Running in Con Dao is Truly Special
🕊️ Absolute Tranquility and Unique Atmosphere
Unlike the hustle and bustle of Vietnam’s urban centers, Con Dao offers a serene escape. With minimal traffic and a slow pace of life, the town is filled only with the sounds of birds, waves, and the occasional hum of a motorbike.
Running along the coast in the early morning as the mist clears over the lake, or witnessing the sun rise over the horizon, is pure mindfulness. It’s a rare environment where you can truly focus on your own heartbeat and breath.
🌿 Backstreets Where History and Nature Intertwine
While Con Dao has a somber history as a former prison island, its remnants are now harmoniously integrated into a lush, green cityscape.
- 1.Colonial-style architecture reflecting remnants of the French era.
- 2.Dynamic landscapes where mountains and the sea meet, adjacent to a pristine National Park.
To feel the fragments of history while running, while simultaneously being energized by the raw power of nature—this is the true essence of running in Con Dao.

1. An Hai–Lo Voi Coastal Course
The island's finest ocean-view route, where you run as one with the sea breeze. Its top-tier accessibility—allowing you to start right from town-center hotels like The Secret—is its greatest appeal. Here’s a detailed report of the 3.5km stretch from An Hai Beach to Lo Voi Beach.
Near An Hai Beach. I recommend switching to a walk here to fully soak in the sea breeze.
From the paved coastal road, the jewel-like azure sea is always in view.
A beautifully maintained coastal road. The exhilaration of cutting through the breeze is rewarding even for beginners.
Lo Voi Beach. At low tide, the firm sand creates a perfect, natural running track.

- ■The biggest draw of this course is the incredible accessibility; if you stay in a town hotel like The Secret, a world-class paved coastal run begins the second you step outside. The surface is perfectly maintained, and the constant sea breeze makes the run surprisingly effortless, even for those new to running.
- ■From the coastal road, you can constantly see the sea sparkling like a gem right beside you. At mid-course near An Hai Beach, the insider move is to drop to a walk and let Con Dao's uniquely gentle air wash over you completely.
- ■Evenly spaced tropical trees line the road, casting gentle shade that welcomes runners like a natural canopy. Even under intense sun, a gust of sea breeze will make your sweat evaporate almost instantly. Running on the beach at Lo Voi during low tide is a rare luxury I highly recommend.

2. Con Son Town Lake Loop Course

🏃♂️Runner's VoiceField Impression
- ■The loop road around the lake is remarkably well-paved for an island, offering a comfortable surface with good energy return for your running shoes. You can feel the authentic, unadorned daily life of Con Dao as you run past locals fishing or taking a stroll.
- ■Since the lakeside is rich in nature, insect protection is essential. I recommend picking up a bottle of “Remos” insect repellent, a brand widely available at local pharmacies and shops, so you can stay fully focused on your run.
- ■In the early morning, when the lake is shrouded in heavy mist and the sheer mountains are reflected like a mirror on the water’s surface, there’s a sacred stillness in the air that seems to cleanse your soul with every breath you take. Starting near the market allows for a perfect recovery with a chilled sugarcane juice right after your run.
3 Key Points to Know Before You Run
🕕 1. Morning & Evening Recommended
To avoid the intense tropical sun, I strongly recommend running in the early morning or as the sun begins to set. Plan based on the sky’s brightness, as optimal times shift slightly with the seasons.
🏃 2. Well-Maintained Sidewalks
Except for the beach sections, the routes introduced here generally feature well-maintained sidewalks. With minimal hazards like roots or large cracks, you can safely focus on the beautiful scenery.
💧 3. Hydrate with Mineral Water
Local convenience stores (Tap Hoa) are everywhere, offering chilled mineral water (“Nuoc Suoi”) at low prices. For natural electrolyte recovery, local fresh coconut or sugarcane juice is also highly recommended.
