Beyond Yonaha Maehama, Sunayama, and Toguchi Beach lies a world reserved for those who dare to explore further,
where you can have the legendary Miyako Blue all to yourself.
Pristine shores found by running beyond the maps.
Standard guidebook of Miyako Island always list the same names: Yonaha Maehama, Sunayama Beach, and Toguchi Beach. While undeniably beautiful, many repeat visitors face a dilemma—the crowds, the sea of beach umbrellas, and the struggle for parking during high season. Is this really the Miyako Island you came for?
Through countless runs across the island, I realized something: there are far more beaches that only appear as tiny dots on maps, or have no name at all. In places where 90% of tourists pass by, the authentic Miyako Blue awaits in silence.
In this guide, I present 7 hidden beach gems discovered by traversing every corner of the island, complete with real-time insights from a runner’s perspective.

01 Detailed Beach Guide
Kurima Maehama Port
The beauty of Miyako's most famous beach—minus the crowds.
Located at the foot of Kurima Bridge on the Kurima Island side, 'Kurima Maehama Port' offers the same pristine sand and crystal-clear water as the main Maehama Beach, but with a magnificent view of Kurima Bridge directly in front. It's easily accessible from the port parking lot and it stays surprisingly uncrowded even during peak season—a true insider's secret.
💡 Tips & Highlights
- ✔︎The port parking lot is spacious and free, usually available even in high season.
- ✔︎Toilets are available near the port (showers are old, check before use).
- ✔︎An excellent photo spot where Kurima Bridge stretches directly across your view.
- ✔︎Enjoy a quiet time away from the crowds of the main Yonaha Maehama Beach opposite.

Maehama Nouson Park South Beach
A stretch of quiet sand extending away from the bridge.
A local beach near Yonaha Maehama that remains surprisingly empty. Just a 1-minute walk from the Maehama Nouson Park parking lot. Because the beach extends far in the opposite direction of the bridge, you can always find a peaceful spot even on weekends. While there are no tourist facilities, the beach preserves Miyako Island in its most natural, untouched form.
💡 Tips & Highlights
- ✔︎Excellent access, just 1 minute from the Maehama Nouson Park parking lot.
- ✔︎A long, quiet private-feeling beach opens up as you move past the rocky entrance.
- ✔︎A secret viewpoint where you can see Kurima Bridge from a different angle.
- ✔︎The park has tables and water, making it perfect for a picnic by the sea breeze.
- ✔︎No vending machines nearby, so bring drinks from the city center.

Ohama Beach, Ikema Island
The blue of Ikema Island is on another level.
A hidden gem on the north side of Ikema Island. Most visitors drive across Ikema Bridge and stop at 'Kaimiru' only to turn back, but Ohama Beach lies right before them. The sea around Ikema has a unique blue hue that feels different from the main island, and the wide beach never feels crowded. It's worth visiting Ikema Island just for this beach alone.
💡 Tips & Highlights
- ✔︎Parking is available at 'Kaimiru' or Ikema Fishing Port.
- ✔︎Located far from the city center, best enjoyed as part of a scenic drive to northern Miyako.
- ✔︎Crossing Ikema Bridge (even halfway) is a must for breathtaking views of Ogami Island.
- ✔︎A luxury location where you can enjoy bridge views and beach silence together.
📋 Equipment & Specs

Special blue and wide sand unique to Ikema Island.

View Ikema Bridge from a unique side-on angle from the beach.

Magamoto no Hama
A deserted island vibe right next to Toguchi Beach.
Located about 10 minutes from Shimojishima Airport. It's sister to the popular Toguchi Beach across a river, but almost never appears on tourist maps, so visitor traffic is nearly zero. You'll feel like you've landed on a deserted island—completely private on weekdays and only a few people on weekends. Note that the cave at the back is a sacred 'Utaki' and off-limits.
💡 Tips & Highlights
- ✔︎Approx. 10 minutes from Shimojishima Airport.
- ✔︎Minimal parking (use Toguchi Port parking at your own risk).
- ✔︎No toilets, showers, or vending machines.
- ✔︎Facilities available at nearby Toguchi Beach (walking distance).
- ✔︎The cave at the back is a sacred site (Utaki); entry is strictly prohibited.

Aramanda Ingya South Beach
My personal favorite on the entire island—silent, secluded, and unforgettable.
Located deep within the Shigira Seven Miles Resort, beyond the Aramanda Ingya Coral Village. This is my personal favorite hidden spot in Miyako Island. Unlike the busy Imgyaa Marine Garden, only the sound of waves fills the air here. The transparency is staggering—the beauty of the blue as you look through the shallow water is unforgettable. Honestly, part of me wants to keep this one to myself.
💡 Tips & Highlights
- ✔︎Located inside Shigira Resort, past Coral Village.
- ✔︎Approx. 10-minute walk from Imgyaa Marine Garden.
- ✔︎High transparency, fish can be seen even in shallows.
- ✔︎Open to public, but please respect resort guest manners.
- ✔︎Heatstroke measures essential as there is little shade.
📋 Equipment & Specs

A quiet beach with clear water and rock formations.

One of the clearest spots in Miyako, see-through to the bottom.

Shigira Bay Country Club South Beach
A secret beach glimpsed through the plants.
A literal secret beach along the road south of Shigira Bay Country Club. The southern side of the road is overgrown with plants, but if you look closely, there's a small path that leads to this hidden shore. Zero facilities, no parking. In return, the private occupancy rate is among the highest on this list. It's an advanced-level beach for those who enjoy 'exploration' over 'easy sightseeing'.
💡 Tips & Highlights
- ✔︎Access via a small path through the vegetation (easy to miss).
- ✔︎No parking (roadside parking at your own risk).
- ✔︎Beach is small; can feel crowded if there's already one other group.

Ikema Bridge Karumata Parking Side
Even if you can't step on the sand, this blue is exceptional.
The parking area on the Karumata side at the foot of Ikema Bridge. During high tide the sand disappears, and even at low tide there is no path down to the beach, so it's listed as an extra. However, the blue of the sea from the parking lot is arguably the best in Miyako. The arch of Ikema Bridge and the shallow Miyako Blue create a perfect composition for photos—a hidden scenic spot often overlooked by travelers.
💡 Tips & Highlights
- ✔︎No toilets or vending machines.
- ✔︎A restroom building exists but has been closed for years.
- ✔︎No path to the beach, but peak viewing for panoramic shots.
- ✔︎Easy to stop by when heading toward Ikema Island.
📋 Equipment & Specs

Incredible Miyako Blue spreading from the bridge foot.

The ultimate photo spot for bridge and ocean views.
